Woodward Dream Cruise 2022

August 20, 2022

All historic vehicle enthusiasts in the United States go to the Woodward Dream Cruise. Every year on the third Saturday in August, it takes place in Detroit, Michigan. The huge cruise travels along Woodward Avenue, which was developed during the early twentieth century’s industrial boom. The cars go from the Pontiac suburbs to the State Fair Grounds near 8 Mile Road in Oakland County.

Over one million people attend the Woodward Dream Cruise, which features over 50,000 vehicles including high-performance muscle cars, street rods, collector goods, custom-made vehicles, and special interest vehicles. In August 1995, a group of automotive enthusiasts feeling nostalgic for the 1950s and 1960s organized the first Woodward Dream Cruise. These were the heydays of Motor City and the nation’s first roadway. In its inaugural year, the festival drew 250,000 attendees and was a huge success. Cars from all around North America converge on Metro Detroit for the summer’s biggest car show. Some people go all the way from New Zealand, Australia, and Japan to attend.

Along Woodward Avenue, the tour also has old-time drive-ins and restaurants that keep the Americana spirit alive. Drivers in their super-powerful cars were served hamburgers and milkshakes by roller-skating waitresses wearing white socks. Tedd’s Drive-In, Totem Pole, The Varsity, Hollywood, Wigwam, and Suzie Q’s were all popular hangouts on Woodbridge Avenue in the 1930s and 1950s. The avenue was also popular with street racing in the 1950s. After manufacturers shifted to less powerful and more energy-efficient cars in the 1970s, the local car culture began to fade.
