Ferrari 488 GTB

The 488 is a middleweight supercar with a mid-mounted V8 driving the rear wheels and seating for two in a low-slung, aggressively designed body. The new GTB keeps a 40-year-old recipe.

The 488 changes variables, though. With turbochargers, the 3.9-liter V8 can produce 661 horsepower. That’s roughly 100 more than the 458—a car nobody called slow.

The bodywork has also been improved. Despite having less aerodynamic drag, the 488 has 50% higher downforce than the 458. Ferrari’s designer’s ducted air from the enormous fender vents through the back of the car and out between the taillights. A speed-activated rear diffuser helps keep things moving.

The driving dynamics are brought together by LaFerrari’s most advanced electronics package. The latest Side Slip Control technology, SSC2, is tailored to softly interfere and keep you out of the ditch. With this updated version, SSC2 can now tune the electronic differential and active dampers, allowing the GTB to respond and adapt as a unit, letting you drive faster.
