Overview
The most potent engine ever developed for a BMW M GmbH vehicle provides the motivation for the new models’ exceptional performance prowess. In the new BMW M8 Coupe and new BMW M8 Convertible, the high-revving V8 engine with M TwinPower Turbo technology produces 441 kW/600 hp, and in the Competition models, 460 kW/625 hp. The high-performance engine is paired with an eight-speed M Steptronic transmission with Drivelogic, and the M xDrive all-wheel-drive system channels the engine’s power to the road.
The chassis technology is model-specific and has been designed and tuned to meet the demands of track use. The M-specific version of the newly developed integrated braking system provides the driver with two different brake pedal feel settings, making it one of the chassis’ most notable features.
During extensive testing at the BMW Group’s test track in Miramas, southern France, the winter testing center in Arjeplog, Sweden, and the Nürburgring’s Nordschleife circuit, as well as other race circuits, the precise interaction between the powertrain, chassis technology, and aerodynamics was fine-tuned. The configuration process was also influenced by the knowledge gained during the BMW M8 GTE racing car’s development. The performance-oriented nature of the engine, transmission and chassis enables the new BMW M8 Coupe and new BMW M8 Convertible to accelerate from 0 to 100 kilometers per hour (62 miles per hour) in 3.3/3.4 seconds. The new BMW M8 Competition Coupe accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 3.2 seconds, while the new BMW M8 Competition Convertible takes 3.3 seconds to accomplish the same feat.
